Children’s Safety in Cars
For parents, the safety of their children is an important and omnipresent issue! The existing seat belts in cars are not sufficient for all age groups. When parents drive their children to appointments, daycare, school or hobbies in their own car, the additional seats required are an integral part of the car. Parents have already thought about this and arranged everything in advance so that they can easily get from A to B with their children at any time, and even unplanned, spontaneous errands can be carried out without any complications.
Child seats are not just a recommendation
The use of child seats in motor vehicles is mandatory. There are various options, and the question often arises as to which seats provide the best protection for whom. It is mandatory for children up to the age of 12 or 150 cm tall and even short trips do not exempt them from this requirement. For older children, the three-point belt must be positioned on the body like an adult’s to ensure adequate safety.
Children in a taxi are children in a car
Parents ensure the safety of their children in their own car. The same safety must be guaranteed for children in a taxi. In other words: Children of all ages have the right to safe transportation and therefore to the right seat in a taxi that will ensure they reach their destination safely.
Which seat is intended for which age?
The child is transported in an infant car seat from birth until approximately 12 months. Depending on the child’s weight and size, this can vary by several months, shortening or lengthening the transition to a toddler car seat.
Toddler car seats are generally used for children from approximately one year of age. These seats are used up to approximately the age of 6.
For children 6 years of age and older, or those weighing at least 22 kilograms and over 125 centimeters tall, booster seats are required. These booster seats are integrated into the taxis and can be booked at any time.
Child-safe journeys require planning
Unfortunately, it’s still very common for parents to be exemplary in their own daily lives when it comes to planning a vacation, for example, and the excitement quickly overshadows this planning aspect, especially if the topic is taken for granted in everyday life.
Booster seats for children aged approximately 6 and older can be booked at short notice, as they are permanently integrated into the vehicles. All other child seats must be booked in advance. Infant and toddler seats are only carried by taxi drivers upon request, which is why advance requests (at least 24 hours in advance – at least 48 hours during holiday periods) are necessary, and a journey is only possible after confirmation. The service fee per infant or toddler seat is € 10,- and is charged in addition to the fare.
